A Summer of Storms

It is no secret that I love storms – Tuesday afternoons was awesome in everyway. I have seen, and put myself in some very dangerous situations shooting storms and Tuesday evening was no exception. But something weird happened. Not only did the lightning strike so close my ears were ringing and I felt the ground shake as I stood on Paterson hill across from the water tower in Byron Bay, but as I looked through my lens across the rifle range swamp a massive hole like some kind of vortex opened up in the sky…perfectly round, perfectly powerful. And then a little tiny rainbow hit the lighthouse to top off the show like some kind of encore before the rain dumped down.

Dougall Pennefather commented on a photo I posted on facebook last night saying he was on the beach with his 18mth old son Texas at the time the storm rollled in at pace….Texas pointed to the sky and said “uh oh”……..exactly right little man, Texas and I were born 39 years and 22 hours apart…maybe another Virgo storm chaser in the making!
