Sunset : Byron Bay : Photo by Kirra Cheers

When Johnny, Dave and myself created Common Ground Byron one of our aims was to expose local, creative talent in the Byron area. In the last mail-out we featured some amazing photos from Kirra Pendergast and Kirra Cheers

Kirra Cheers took the first photo in the mail-out of the sunset surfers. That particular photo won the Byron Bay Snap Photo Comp. Kirra also won the National Travel Scholarship with the Australian Institute of Professional Photography, In her final year at school she won the Ilford Photographic Competition. Kirra also entered four photos in and International Aperture Awards where she won three bronze and one silver award. All prints made the top 50. The silver award came fourth overall in the photojournalism category and has qualified for the final judging round for the major prize of $20,000. With entries from over 91 countries, this is huge recognition on an international scale for the Byron Bay local.

There are so many talented creative people in Byron Bay and today we wanted to feature just one of them…. hope you enjoy Kirra’s photos as much as we have.
