Primary Provider of youth services and support in Byron Shire
BYS is a not-for-profit incorporated community association committed to providing services for young people between the ages of 12 -24 years and their families. Our services are based on a sound understanding of young peoples needs and experiences.
We were established in 1987 and have been the primary provider of youth services in Byron Shire ever since. BYS advocates for young people and provides programs and facilities that support and empower young people and their families. We work in partnership with many members of our community to develop and deliver a dynamic range of programs and services.
BYS is governed by a voluntary Committee of Management comprising a range of local people with skills in education, government, community services, business, the creative arts and youth work. Our Committee also includes representatives from community projects that we auspice, the BYS Director and a staff representative.
We currently have an exceptional team of 8 experienced and well-qualified staff and 6 casual workers. Approximately 8 co-workers, employed by other organisations, regularly work with our team at the YAC in Byron and we are committed to training the next generation of youth workers by hosting students that are studying courses within the Community Services training package.
We operate from facilities in Byron Bay (the YAC) and Mullumbimby (the Cottage) and also run outreach programs throughout the Byron Shire.
90% of our funding comes from State and Federal government grants and we do lots of fundraising. BYS is a registered charity and has Deductible Gift recipient (DGR) status with the Australian Tax Office.
