Byron Community Centre
Situated in the heart of Byron Bay, the contemporary venue is home to the Byron Theatre, several meeting rooms, key community orgainsations and services plus the Byron Markets management and various entertainment and community projects. The Byron Bay Community Association, a not for profit organization, operates the Byron Community Centre.
What We Do
The Centre operates a range of services for the most needy people in Byron Bay. Over the last 31 years the Centre has played a key role in establishing many local community services
The Centre functions as the information point for Community Services and the Fletcher Street cottage plus the Byron Markets. Currently, the Centre houses a range of vital services; emergency relief, a homeless drop in centre, community meals and food bank, financial counselling, community counselling, legal advice, tax assistance, breast cancer support group, harmony group and a No Interest Loans Scheme.
The new Community Centre complex was completed in 2002 and the superb Byron Theatre won the 2003 Dolphin Award for Best Venue. The 246- seat amphitheatre has hosted a huge range of events including music, dance, theatre, film, school productions and conferences.
In addition, the Centre complex has several meeting rooms and is home to local organisations including Bay FM radio station, Byron Community Financial Services (BCFS) and a room leased to Southern Cross University.
The Centre is entirely self-funded through income and grants but receives no ongoing funding from Federal, State or Local Governments. It is managed as a not-for-profit organisation by the Byron Bay Community Association.
