Birds of Tokyo at The Northern – Photography by Lisa Gough

The Birds of Tokyo electrified the Backroom at The Northern on Sunday. From the very first word they had the audience captivated, the crowd singing along and lights blaring behind them. Anchor and Lanterns had the whole floor getting involved, you could feel the emotional connection the crowd had to these two songs.

Kicking off the show with ‘Harlequins’, it’s easy to see why they earned the New Apra award for Rock work of the year 2017. With a string of hits and plaques under their belt, it’s clear this band knows how to work a crowd, and their fans know every single word.
