It’s been a long couple of years for North Coast band Skinwalkers. Originally a trio, their momentum was cut short by the exit of their bass player from the band two years ago, prompting a break from the live scene to regroup and decide where to go next. Fast forward to now, and the two remaining members of the band Matt Turner (Drums/Vox) and Lach Jenno (Guitar/Vox) have settled on a sound and a direction, and we’re better off for it.
Rather than abandon the more than seven years playing together and in place of recruiting a new member, the two-piece have hit back at their challenges and come out swinging with an East Coast tour along with a new single, Two’s Company.
Recorded by Dave Atkins (Resin Dogs, Wolfmother), the track is hard hitting and takes no prisoners. The hard hitting drums, solid riffs and melodies betray the fact there are only two musicians on stage; it’s punchy and raw, but it works. The recording was originally intended for demo purposes, but after sharing it around fellow musicians and industry figures it was decided this matched where the boys were at right now, so it became a single. Mastered by Steve Smart at Studios 301 in Sydney, Lach describes this song as “personal”, and a great way of getting a “bit of closure to the end of one chapter, and a healthy reminder of how far we’ve come to get to the next one”
Skinwalkers are playing the Tatts Hotel Backroom in Lismore tonight alongside local indie rockers WHARVES and underground punk/prog figures Thunder God Of The Multiverse. Doors are at 8pm, $10 entry.
